1997 Recipient - Dr. Leo Holmsetn
Dr. Holmsten, an obstetrician/gynecologist, began private practice in 1963 in Rochester with privileges at Genesee, Highland and Strong Memorial Hospitals. From then until 1972, his pro-life position was being formulated. He had no doubt of the help of the Lord in his coming to his pro-life position. In 1972 he resigned as Planned Parenthood Medical Director, a position he held from 1969. From 1972 through 1997, he had a private practice in which he worked with love and compassion for the unborn and their families.
He was also generous in working with pro-life groups, e.g. Crisis Pregnancy Services as Medical Director and Board member for over 10 years, Faith Haven, Inc. as Medical Director and Board member, and the RARTL Committee as the President of the Advisory Board.
Dr. Holmsten's efforts were not confined to providing medical help to women and delivering babies. He was an outstanding speaker/debater. He was well recognized for his factual and logical presentations and responses to his opponents' pro-abortion positions.
He worked with and for the Lord. Neither receiving nor having his name on an award were his goals. He worked with love and compassion for the unborn and their families. All LHHL award recipients also have made similar pro-life commitments. All have and continue to work with love of God and of life, His creation and gift to each of us.
Beginning with Dr. Holmsten, we than the award recipients with a plaque. All have thanked us with grateful words. Because these thanks are symbolic of mutual appreciation of the tireless efforts of all pro-life persons and the help of God, Our Father, and His Son, Jesus Christ.
